The Fun Begins!

Wedding Plans…

First comes the grand old picking of the wedding date.. It’s amazing how many people will ask you –even on the day of the engagement- “so, do you have a date?”, or “when’s the date?” ummm… I’ve only been engaged for 30 minutes…

We settled on a date last summer, August 1st, 2009. -gave us more than a year to plan-
I thought the benefit of a long weekend might allow some relatives who live further away to attend. Saskatoon seems like the perfect location to me; I had considered Regina, but I think it would be easiest to plan a wedding in the city I am
currently living in. (Sorry mom; I know the renovations in your house are looking fantastic!)

We have the church booked, the reception will be at the Travelodge hotel; the room looks wonderful I’m very excited! Even better we get a free hotel room there for our wedding night! Yay!!! The Event Coordinator there is fantastic I think she’s great.

Wedding colours: I wanted just black and white originally, Brett figured we needed another colour, and he was probably right. We went with red, I’ve always liked those three together.

The Proposal
When: February 14th
Where: University of Saskatchewan Education Buffeteria
Why?
Why in the Buffeteria you ask? We thought the best way to celebrate Valentine's day would be to have a lunch date as we had no class that afternoon. I rejoiced in having no class that day while Brett was stuck with his first year theory class.. muahahahaha.
So, we decided to meet in the buffeteria for lunch, something we did regularly on Thursdays. I suggested going out but this was what Brett had wanted- and apparently for good reason.
I had an inkling as to why he had insisted on lunch at school (though my inkling isn't what you suspect it was); I had figured he ordered me a singing valentine from the university choir... and I was correct.
I arrived to find my Brett all decked out in his suit and tie… wow! (I wish I had dressed up a bit more, but I did bring him some Valentine’s cupcakes). We began our lunch and along came the dreaded Singing Valentine… (not that the singing was dreadful, I didn’t want to be the centre of attention like that.)
It was entertaining though slightly embarrassing. lol I wish I could remember what song they had sung, but it wasn't one I was familiar with (apparently they had sung the wrong song from what he had requested, but the sentiment was still there, he's such a sweetie).
Thankfully he waited until people were no longer staring in our direction before he popped the question, (unless you count a table of our friends across the room who were staring at us during the entire lunch just to amuse themselves).
How did he do it? Well we exchanged valentine’s day cards… and after some romantic sentiments and words there was written “Marry Me, my love.”
It really makes your heart race, and then you second guess what you just read. As I looked up from the card to make sure this was real I noticed that he was holding a ring box up just behind the card. Inside was a beautiful ring which he had picked out all on his own. Of course I said yes. J
There was no bending on knee but I’m quite fine with that.
Why the Buffeteria you ask? As any UofS music student will know you spend a LOT of time hanging out at those tables. Yup, lots of time spent eating food, doing homework, playing Kaiser… ah the memories.
What better place to propose?
I was beginning to wonder if Brett’s friends were in on the plot as they kept watching us, but as it turns out they were just trying to be creepy for the sake of being creepy.

The first person to congratulate us was a lady who works in the Buffeteria, as we were within her line of sight. Apparently the graduate student at the table right next to us was completely oblivious to what had just happened. Lol. Next stop was my sister's place to show her and call my mom. :)
We celebrated that night with dinner at Kelsey’s restaurant. It was a very, very, wonderful Valentine’s Day!
